Ginkaku-ji "Temple of the Silver Pavilion" is a very humble shrine but have you seen a more exquisitely arranged Zen garden?

The temple's famous building, the property features wooded grounds covered with a variety of mosses. The Japanese garden, supposedly designed by the great landscape artist Sōami. The sand garden of Ginkaku-ji has become particularly well known; and the carefully formed pile of sand which is said to symbolize Mount Fuji is an essential element in the garden.

The Silver shrine is magnificent but I expected it to be more silver in color.

The eternal sand garden.

Each tree and moss seems as if it’s been here forever.

Stone Torri gate leads to this small shrine.

A nice picture of the sand garden and in the background the large mountain.
